Progress..

This project has been moving at a snails pace.

To no one's fault....but it started off with a bang and a large hole. And then it stalled.

Reconfiguring drawings, measurements, shifting things around, back to the city for approval and now we're back in business.

Inspector was here, we got approval to begin concrete work and concrete footings are going in as I type this and soon our hole will no longer be filled with just dirt....but will hold concrete as well!

We haven't goten too rattled....we've continued to line up workers, inspections and browse ideas for the interior finishings.

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that it feels GREAT to have a full crew here today working and making progress.

So.....here's what it looks like in "da hole" now.....will update with a pic of our beautiful slab of concrete later!

Wonderment....

That's the word that best describes the little people that occupy my home right now. They leave us completely and utterly amazed.

Just a few days shy of their 14th month.....it's as if the wheels up there in those blonde heads is cranking at light speed. Everyday they are learning....such a beautiful and fascinating experience for us as parents. It's still so crazy to us that we can ask you to go pick out a book, grab your sippy, find your shoes, go find your baby (doll), monkey or football and you DO! Both are amazing at pointing to things too. Point to your puppy, point to the baby (in mommy's belly) and without hesitation those little fingers are pointing and saying "eh eh".
I haven't been doing great about updating their "monthly" milestones anymore. I figure once they turn 1 year.....we don't need the play by play. But for THEIR sake and MINE (baby books and record keeping)....I'm going to attempt some of the amazingness that transpired from months 12-14

Hudson
You've morphed into this quiet, serious, thinker. You love to work things out...put blocks away by sorting out the pieces that don't belong. You like pushing around a shopping cart and putting things in, out, in, out and arranging them so they fit. Very analytical. You're also very cautious. While sister will jump with both feet into water or fling herself around....you are a bit more reserved.
You're no longer walking....you're running. You fly through the house.....while I am working all day in the basement it sounds like a constant pitter patter.
You're very affectionate. You love to pet the dogs, hug my big belly, give kisses and snuggle. I love this most about you. You'll climb into our laps and just melt.
Talking: You are just overall a lot quieter than Harper. But when you do talk, you have lots to say. You say a lot of "nene, nana" and your first official "word" and by that I mean, you recognize something and assign the correct word to it is.....drumroll.....DOG! And "Hi" which anyone who basically drives down the street gets a big HI from you and a wave or kisses blown. You actually say "Da" but you point to dogs and repeat it over and over. It's definitely DOG! You also said banana the other night when we asked you to repeat it.
Signing: You're a pro at signing "More, All done and Dog". We're working on "food, thank you, please and help"
Physical Milestones: You've gotten very blonde and tall. This makes you less chubby and much more lean. And the blonde hair...with little curls on the end. So beautiful my baby boy! You can point to your nose, belly button and eye's.
Temperment: Very calm, mild mannered and easy going. Sister will take your toys....you just take them back. You do get frustrated though when you can't figure something out and you grit your teeth and sometimes run over to the couch cushion and bit it?!?!
Harper
You're goofy and wild. There is no way around it. Full of energy and totally unpredictable. You've been walking since just after your 1st birthday and are picking up pace and trying to run these days. Youv'e got a strange attachment to things daily. The gold necklace and bibs are almost always adorning your neck. One day I came upstairs from work and you had 3 bibs on. NO joke! You are opinionated about what you want on.....shoes on, shoes off, these shoes on, this necklace on, bow off, diaper off....we are always on our toes.
You still love tags. On clothes but mostly on blankets and bigs. You'll suck on the tag or just play with it between your fingers for an extremely long time. You're someone who wants instant gratifacation. When you're put in your high chair, you want to eat NOW. When you see me putting ice water in your sippy cup, you want it NOW. A strong woman you're going to be baby girl.
Talking: You never stop. You've got this beautiful little hum that goes from morning till bedtime with lots of laughter in between. Words you're saying are: All Done, Da (dog), Hot, You can also say "Hot Dog" (we dance to the Mickey Mouse Hot Dog dance every morning), and this isn't recognizable but you try to say "Hudson", Hi, Ba (ball)
Signing: You sign "All done, more and eat/food" very clearly. We're working on "Thank you, Help and Please"
Physical Milestones: Your feet grew the teeniest bit! Haha! You're petite....short like mama with little hands and feet. You can point to your nose, eyes, belly button and toes when asked to.
Temperment: As mentioned....you're silly. You love peek-a-boo, to be chased and to fling yourself around onto pillows or into blanket piles. You're fiesty and screeeeeeeech loud if your toy/book or necklace is snatched up by your brother. You're starting to become very affecionate. You weren't much of a cuddler a while ago, but recently have started to lay your head against me or daddy and just be. You don't sit still for long, which is why I think we don't get to cuddle much. But as you start to unwind before a nap or bedtime, you've started to cuddle more.

These days....they are exhausting at 32 weeks to be chasing two active one's but I wouldn't trade a thing. They are so much fun, so incredibly smart and life just feels so rich being able to watch the discovery of everything through their eyes.

6 Years...

6 Years Ago Today...
I woke up to a dark room filled with tiny little tea light candles burning, my big strong guy kneeling next to the bed, holding a single calla lily and a beautiful diamond ring.
It definitely took my eye's and ears a minute to adjust and process this beautiful dream which was actually my reality.

This morning I woke up next to that same big strong man and we did our usual morning routine. Both groggily climb out of bed and hurry down the hall to 2 smiling faces jabbering and bouncing around in their cribs ready to begin the day. Off to the living room we go for a little Mickey Mouse Playhouse, sippy cups of milk and snuggles.

Life truly could not be more blessed.

What's shakin?

These two.....

Check out their little dance moves as we watch the end of their FAVORITE show...Mickey's PlayHouse.

They love this Hot Dog Dance!

On the homefront....the hole is still just a hole! Because of the bad rain last night, concrete had to be post-poned until tomorrow. BOO!

HVAC guy comes today......concrete this week, excavators come back to backfill with dirt and haul away the rest. And framing begins a week from tomorrow!

We had a great weekend! We went to the Splash Pad with the cousins and they had a BLAST!

These pics just crack me up! They have so much fun together. You can start to see those "firstborn' tendencies come out in Izaak and Hudson which draws them together. Then there's Landon and Harper, who are the poster "second born's" always pushing the limits, getting into the that they shouldn't be.....I just love it!

Digging Our Heels In...Picture Overload

Digging is DONE! Yesterday, by the early hour of 2pm....our big 1000 square foot (18ft deep) hole was dug! DONE!
It's that ginormous dirt pile that will bump the concrete pouring out until Monday (was scheduled for Friday).
Here is the lowdown on yesterday:

Big huge, orange machine showed up promptly at 7:30am:
3 little noses pressed up against the glass to watch as the digging began!

Just nuts!

Throughout the day, a Bobcat went from backyard to front yard hauling dirt into a dump truck. I'd say they got about 15 trips before the dump truck needed to go (to where, no clue) to empty out the dirt and return. Repeat, repeat, repeat.....all day long.

There it is....our new addition! Can you see it? Office, Master Bedroom with en-suite bath, closet and laundry, family room, dining room ABOVE ground and below ground: BIG HUGE open space for storage and TV room/playroom!

General Contractor, Blake shows up after work to take measurements and check the work. Overall, VERY successful day #1!!!

Big Update

Lots to update on.....so here we go!

First Up: Babykins

28 Week Dr Appt was rescheduled for Friday, but ALL looked great! Placenta moved up, baby measured right on track and this mama passed her Gestational Diabetes Test! Yay!

Baby was quite shy, no sneak peeks at it's face or even profile. I was so excited that the u/s tech switched the sonogram into 3D so we could actually SEE features. But baby was arms up, head turned away. NO SNEAKY PEEK for us! :-(

Second: Happy 4th of July!!!

We had a GREAT weekend! Blake headed up to Brainerd with friends, I came up for the day on Saturday after spending a few days with Grandma Marit in Melrose and then the twins joined us for a family 4th with close friends for a few days on Gull Lake. Such fun! The twins played in the sand, went for their first boat ride, made their debut at Ernie's On The Lake ;-), and had TONS of fun at the Grandview Lodge water park. Blake even talked to the lifeguard on duty and got the thumbs up to bring them on a water slide! We went into "town" and got ice cream, did some window shopping and ate lots of yummy food on the grill. We kept saying how LUCKY we are all weekend. They napped great, were good in the car on the long road trips and slept like logs! They made the weekend away seem like a breeze! We'll definitely have to do another weekend getaway before Sept when we prepare for baby #3!!! Here's a pic I took on my phone of my two beach babes! Turns out, Harper is quite the water baby! Hudson was more observant, watchful and cautious. Harper, was part fish!

Next Up: Permit

Our yellow-ish, gold-ish piece of paper is properly displayed in our front window and the addition is underway. This weekend, our deck was dis-assembled and tomorrow the excavators come to begin digging. I'll make sure to document more after tomorrow. For now......the yard just looks like this:
But tomorrow, the transformation will be much more dramatic!

Concrete is poured late in the week and then we'll begin framing. We had a meeting on Thursday am with our architect to map out the giant space in the basement. We were able to configure the existing space and blend in the addition through all sorts of fun and easy changes (half walls, sliding doors, french doors, nooks, etc, etc)

I've GOT to figure out how to put up the plans.....it's going to be quite a fun transformation for this house. The current square footage on our house now is 2004 square feet. We're adding approximately 2000 square feet between the main level and basement. So, doubling our house is basically like building THIS house. Ugh.....let's pray we stay on track because that is a BIG job!!!

Finally: Think Pink

Pink Eye has infested our house! Not sure how or when....but poor Harper has it in BOTH eyes! We went to the Dr this afternoon, got drops and I'm sure she will kick it in less than 24 hours. Didn't slow her down a second....she has been happy, full of energy and a ball of fun. But, terribly watery and gross goopy eye's were the indication that something was up. Let's pray it stops with Harper and doesn't spread to the whole fam!

That's it! From baby to Brainerd to Addition to Pink Eye.......lots to report from the last few days. And keep checkin' in because there will be LOTS to post about as our house and yard become home to bobcats, backhoe's, wheel loaders, dozer's, dump trucks and cement trucks!
